Solar power is the incredible, simple conversion of energy from our natural sunlight source into electricity to service residential and commercial business, homes and more. Directly using photovoltaics and indirectly using concentrated solar power, or a combination. Concentrated solar power systems by use of lenses or mirrors and tracking systems to focus a large area of sunlight into a small beam.

The beauty of solar power is not only the magnificent use of natural energy to provide for our planet but to most of us, it is simply an efficient way to reduce our electricity costs and carbon footprint at the same time. A large number of Australians optimise the natural sunshine with installation of solar panels - used to absorb sunlight generating energy and then converting to a usable current energy. Excess electricity produced by solar panels is fed to an electric grid.

The Queensland Government is now trialing a new program which would allow people who do not own their own home and are renting to still benefit from the use of solar power. Under the "Solar for Rentals" program trial, property owners with investment properties in the Bundaberg, Gladstone and Townsville local government areas can work with tenants to enjoy the benefits of a solar power system.

The tenant must give consent to have a solar power system installed and be willing to sign a new tenancy agreement with a higher rent, understanding that the rent increase may be offset with power bill savings through using the solar power or selling it back to the grid. Eligible property owners can then apply for a rebate of up to $3500 for installing a solar power system in their rental property.
